Monday News Update

Well, I'm still recovering from last week's Photoshop World up in Boston! I had an absolute blast---met SO many great people---I learned a lot (I actually got to sit in on some sessions), plus I got to play a set with my band "Big Electric Cat" at Jillian's nightclub across the street from Fenway. What an amazing week! Well, now it's this week, and here's what's up:

• This kid can shoot! I ran across this site (called LensEvny) of a Photoshop World attendee (he had a blog post about Photoshop World), but it was his photography that really caught my attention (one of his shots is shown above). He's got a couple of great shots he took on at Boston's Holocaust Memorial (I really like the one on the right), but take a moment to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Next page" link twice, to check out some of his other photos. I have to say---this kid can shoot! (I say "kid," he just turned 21 last week, so he's not really a kid, but ya know---at my age--anyone his age is a kid). Check it out here.

• We posted some photos from Photoshop World: you can see them by clicking here, but we'll be posting lots more later today, so check back tomorrow, too!

• The Photoshop Site "Designorati" has posted some on-scene photos from Photoshop World in an online gallery. Check it out right here.

• Our friend (and photograper extrodinairre), Vincent Versace (the namesake of oPhotoshop World's prestigious "Vincent Versace Award for Digital Photographic Excellence," ---one of the highest artistic honors awarded in our industry), has just released a training DVD on Nikon's Capture NX, called "Unleashing the Raw Power of Capture NX. Check it out right here.

• An article on AppleInsider today quotes investment research firm PiperJaffray who had researchers on hand at Photoshop World in Boston last week, interviewing attendees and getting the feel for how Adobe customers are reacting to CS3. The title of the article is: "Interest in Adobe CS3 booms, Photoshop World Sells Out," and in the AppleInsider article (by Katie Marsal) it says, "Creative professionals, eager for a glimpse of the new Adobe suites in action, flocked in herds to the Boston, Mass.-based Photoshop conference earlier this week, selling out the show for the first time in its history. Read the full article here.

• Andrew Rodney (AKA: The Digital Dog), has posted a great photo gallery of shots taken at the Lightoom Pre-Conference Workshop at Photoshop World (known as "Photoshop Soup2Nuts"). Check it out by clicking here.

• If you use Photoshop Elements 5 (or have a friend or family member that does), Adobe posted a free update that fixes all sorts of little stuff. Click here to jump to the free update download page.

• Hey, there's more news: scroll down to the read the next post. ;-)

Have a great Monday everybody!!!

It's here! It's finally here!

My Lightroom is finally (finally!) hitting books stores this week. Peachpit had copies for sale at Photoshop World last week, and although Amazon.com sent out an auto-email saying it wouldn't be in stock until June, it was just one of those crazy "email bot things" and they'll actually have it any day now (I guess they're working on sending out a "it's on its way" bot email maybe as soon as today). So, thanks to everybody who pre-ordered the book (we've had record-breaking pre-orders). Now, along those lines: this is just too cool---it's a flash-based preview of the book (designed to give you a sample of the look, feel, and layout of the book), but it's how it works that is so slick. Even if you're not a photographer, it's still worth checking out just to see how this works. You can either use the nav buttons at the bottom, but it's really more fun to literally grab the corner of a page, and flip it just like you would a real book. Click here to start grabbing yourself (wait...that doesn't sound very good). My thanks to Nancy Ruenzel, Scott Cowlin, and everybody at Peachpit Press who worked so hard to make this new book a reality. Way to go!!!! :-)

My Lameness

I had all these plans to be posting all sorts of show coverage from Photoshop World, really giving loads of coverage, but I have been just running around like crazy. I've only got one session today (my brand new "Photoshop Down & Dirty Tricks 2007" session), so hopefully I can get a few shots or posts up. Here's a few quick things in the meantime:

• My buddy (and Photoshop TV co-host), Dave Cross had the coolest thing happen yesterday: OnOne Software announced immediate availability of the "Dave Cross Digital Frame Collection," which adds more than 20 professionally designed frame edges to OnOne's popular PhotoFrame Pro edge plug-in for Photoshop. Read the full scoop at OnOne's site.

• We taped a Live episode of Photoshop TV from the Expo Floor yesterday, and we really had a blast. The episode will air on Monday.

• My Lightroom Book is here! Peachpit Press was selling them yesterday in the Expo Bookstore, and I was really psyched to see it! It should be in bookstores any day now! :-)

• Yesterday's Keynote from Adobe was just amazing. I hope to have some photos and more info later today, but it totally energized the standing-room-only crowd! It was the first in-depth look at Photoshop CS3 Extended--plus they showed some new technology that pretty much blew everybody away. More on this soon.

• Lots more to report, both about Photoshop World and about other things in the industry, so hopefully I'll get a chance to post more, but I've got to get to class, so have a great day everybody!!!!

Thursday News Update

Here's the news (or at least, the news I know about).

• Debbie Grossman over at Popular Photography magazine posted her review of Photoshop CS3, along with her top five reasons to upgrade. Click here to read it online.

• Derek Story has a helpful article on using Photo Rescue to recover erased photos from a memory card (Here's the link).

• Want a free lens hood for your digital camera lenses? Well, this is the next best thing (it's free, and it's a lens hood, but....). Well, just check it out.

• Got a minute to watch something really cute? It's a really clever animation (sent my way by Julie, our Photoshop World conference director), but I don't want to spoil it by telling what it is, other than I promise it will make you smile). Then click right here

• My new book on Adobe Lightroom (The Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers---shown above) is off press and will be making its debut next week at Photoshop World, where we'll have copies for sale in the official bookstore. The book will be showing up in bookstores any day now, and if you've preordered your copy, you'll be among the first to get yours. If you haven't ordered yours (and I hope you will), click right here.

• Adobe has posted the latest edition of their cool PDF-based magazine called "Adobe Edge" and you can download it free from their site.

• Want some really cool free Photoshop Brushes? These are brushes that look like water stains (like you left a cold drink on a newspaper or fine wood table). They're cooler than it sounds, and....we.... they're free! Check 'em out by following this link.

• If you're a photographer and you're already signed up for Photoshop World next week, you'll want to snag one of the remaining spots for the Lightroom hands-on pre-conference workshop, held on Tuesday, April 3rd. It's called "Photoshop Soup2Nuts" and it features a who's who of Lightroom development, including Thomas Knoll (the man who wrote Photoshop and Camera Raw), plus Mark Hamburg (the "Father of Lightroom"), plus Jeff Schewe, Andrew "The Digital Dog" Rodney, and Adobe's Pro-photo evangelist George Jardine, among others. To reserve your spot, call 813-433-5005.

Our Photo Gallery From Adobe's CS3 Launch Event In New York City

The Photoshop Guys were in New York yesterday at Adobe's CS3 Launch Event, taping a special bonus episode of Photoshop TV (which is set to air tomorrow) from the launch event, complete with one-one-one interviews with Adobe's CEO Bruce Chizen and an interview with Adobe's Senior VP of Creative Solutions Business Unit, John Loiacono (who'll be doing the Photoshop World keynote next week), among others. But in the meantime, I posted a flickr gallery where you can check out these photos from the event (taken by our man Matt Kloskowski).

OK, I've landed and we're on our way to B&H

The Adobe event isn't starting until 3:00 pm today, and it's 8:53 am and we're in NYC, so it's time to go to B&H Photo's Superstore!!! We brought a video camera with us, so if there's something you'd like to see us do as an "On Scene" report from B&H, let me know and we'll try to shoot it for Photoshop TV.Here's some other news:

• Adobe's posted another page on the Creative Suite, and it's definitely worth a visit (click here).

• Adobe is Web-casting today's Launch Event, so if you'd like to see it as it happens, click this link (though, I'd probably wait to click it until around 3:00 or 3:30, eh?)

•PhotoshopNews.com has some great CS3 coverage today (as always), and they're covering the event today with live posts, so make sure you stop by (click here).

. In some "Non-CS3 News:" Popular Photogaphy magazine is running a pretty cool contest called the "Digital Wizards Contest" with a $1,000 Grand Prize. The deadline for entries is March 31, 2007, so if you think you've "got the stuff," click here to enter (or for more info).

• There an article in the Money section of today's USA Today about the Creative Suite launch, and in the article yours truly is quoted a couple of times (here's a link to the online version). Hey, I'm excited---it's not every day you get quoted in USA Today. :-)

Quick News Update, from Seat 19C

OK, they're going to close the cabin doors in about 6 minutes, so here's the latest:

• Adobe officially announced CS3 (not just Photoshop, and the highly anticipated Photoshop Extended), I mean the whole Creative Suite 3. Check out Adobe's info on their site.

• Our own Matt Klowkowski posted a number of new videos featuring Photoshop CS3 Extended at NAPP's CS3 Learning Center. Click here to go there!

• Terry White has posted a great CS3 video podcast called "Introducing the Creative Suite 3" and it showcases all the cool new CS3 stuff. Check it out here.

• More to come---they're closing the doors.

On Our Way To New York For The Adobe Launch Event

Well, it's 5:36 am and "The Photoshop Guys" (L to R: Matt, Me, and Dave) are at the airport for the first flight out to New York for Adobe's big Launch Event this afternoon. More news to come, but they're boarding---gotta fly!!!

It's Official: Photoshop World is SOLD OUT!!!l

I'm just so excited to announce that for the first time ever, the Photoshop World Conference and Expo is SOLD OUT! We have absolutely shattered our East Coast attendance record and that just shows you the incredible interest in Photoshop CS3, Adobe Lightroom (which both play starring roles at the conference), and the entire Creative Suite (this year we've got an entire conference track dedicated to training on the Creative Suite applications, and of course Adobe will be demoing all the new CS3 goodies in their both on the expo floor).

Another thing building buzz for the show are Adobe's special interest events (added in Boston for the first time ever), which include a special plug-in Developer pavilion, Birds of a Feather meetings for Medical and Scientific Research Professionals, and a Developer's Kitchen workshop featuring Adobe's own Photoshop engineers. This brings a whole new dimension to Photoshop World.

TIP: Even though the conference is sold out in advance, we're still allowing the public onto the Expo Floor for one-day only: Thursday, April 5th, so if you'd like to come and check out all the exhibits (and attend some cool show-floor training sessions), go to the Photoshop World Web site to sign up for your FREE Expo-only pass (if you wait until you get there, the Expo-only pass is $25.00, so you're better off to sign up free in advance). Hope to see you all in Boston for this record-breaking, history-making event!!!!

Joe McNally's Photography Feature in Golf Digest

I just got a chance to see Joe McNally's photo feature in their special "2007 Masters Preview" April edition of Golf Digest, called "Inside & Outside The Gates of Augusta National" and it's just absolutely fascinating. Joe just has a way of really capturing the essence of whatever he shoots, whether it's people or places, and this article does both in an amazing way. The 12 page feature has just one large photo on each page with a caption, and what's so captivating about the photos (and the story) is that it's not the typical kind of photo you'd expect to see in a golf magazine. It's much more of a photo documentary of Augusta, its history and its residents, and it's just really refreshing to see it covered in this fashion. Congrats to Joe, and also to Golf Digest for bringing this type of feature, and this kind of photography, to such a great magazine. Pick it up on your local newsstand and see for yourself.
